24 –Read Luke 11:37-54
The hostility that has been building
between Jesus and the religious authorities now explodes at a dinner at the
home of a Pharisee. Matthew has an even more extended account that he places
after Jesus has entered Jerusalem in chapter 23. In every circumstance Jesus
teaches and acts out the love of God, while in many of those circumstances the
religious authorities remain focused on keeping the smallest details of the law
of God. Now Jesus lets them have it in such strong terms that he completely
solidifies their determination to kill him.
Reflection Questions: Here Jesus speaks truth to power in
the plainest terms possible. How do you feel about the injustice you see? How
do you deal with it?
Prayer: Dear God, help me stand up for the
truth of your love. Help me carry out your will. Amen.
